Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy is a service that focuses on a person's ability to live their best life. With strong knowledge of one's psychological, physical, emotional, sensory, cognitive, and social makeup, occupational therapists can evaluate how your child's condition (or risk of one) is affecting his or her participation in life. They can provide ways to overcome any barriers while using a holistic perspective.

For children, their 'occupation', or everyday job, may include playing, learning, sleeping and resting, interacting with friends, getting dressed, and other daily activities. Difficulty with these activities can affect one's development and participation in life, as well as the functioning of the entire family unit. Occupational Therapy can help.

There are many ways occupational therapy might help your child. Common areas of concern for parents include:

  • behaviors that interrupt the family routine or participation in school

  • inability to respond appropriately to the environment including sights, sounds, and physical contact

  • difficulty with independence in dressing or other daily activities

  • picky eating habits

  • difficulty with independent toileting

  • inability to play appropriately with peers

  • difficulty with attention and organization

  • clumsiness

  • difficulty using pencils, scissors, utensils, etc.

"You can discover more about a person in an hour of play, than a year of conversation."
